„…That I Won’t Become Whom I’d Wanted to Be” (2018) is a personal re-enacting of a scene from a classic Hungarian documentary from the 70ies. The film Princess in Rags and Tatters by István Dárday examines the shortcomings of the workers’ education policy in socialist Hungary, calling the system to account for the lack of real inclusivity and solidarity. In this film, framed by a tragicomic documentation of a musical performance in a workers’ hostel, a young worker (his name was not credited in the film) talks about his life with such an articulated directness that he alone outweighs the self-justificatory statements by the other interviewees in the film. In my version I isolated the scene, learned the words and the gestures of the speaker and attempted to deliver the monologue as faithfully as I could in order to create an ambiguous play of acting and sincerity, of referenciality and immediacy, of empathy and appropriation, and to offer the possibility for a range of interpretations from just getting it at “face value” up to reading it in the social, political or cultural contexts of today’s Hungary.

Bianca Pedrina setzt sich mit der gebauten Umwelt und dem Vorgang der visuellen Wahrnehmung auseinander. Sie fokussiert sich in ihren fotografischen Arbeiten auf architektonische Details, wobei sie ihren Blick in ortsspezifischen Installationen oftmals auf die Materialität des Ausstellungsraums richtet. 

In der neuen Arbeit ‚City Dust‘ gilt ihre Aufmerksamkeit der Fassade von
SIZE MATTERS. Die über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg entstandenen Staubablagerungen der Stadt Wien und ihrer Umgebung sind auf der „Aussenhaut“ des Ausstellungsraums gut sichtbar. Die in den Raum
gestellten Fotografien zeigen den aktuellen Zustand der Fassade.
In einem weiteren Schritt tauscht Pedrina die Kamera mit einem Rasterelektronenmikroskop, um festzustellen, welche anorganischen
Stoffe von der Stadt abgesondert werden, welche Mikropartikel den
Weg zu SIZE MATTERS finden und die Oberfläche des Gebäudes besiedeln.
